SoundLab Play Rave is back! It's taking place on Thursday 6 December at Wellcome Collection. It's free, so just drop in and get involved. Find out more information on the Heart n Soul SoundLab website!
SoundLab is one of Heart n Soul’s most important projects. Over the last three years we have explored how digital music making technologies can be used to help people with learning disabilities make the music they want to make, visit the SoundLab website to Share, Learn and Play!
The idea won funding from the Arts Council England / Nesta / AHRC Digital R&D Fund, which helped us to research new and innovative technologies and approaches. These were included in our SoundLab Guide, which won Best Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEN/D) resource at the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence 2016.
Collaboration is at the heart of SoundLab because we think that technology can be an amazing way to support people to make music together. The aim of SoundLab collaborations is to share new music technology developments and ways of making music with a wider audience, inspiring people to try new tools, techniques and experiences to create.
Dean Rodney Jr and the band Ravioli Me Away collaborated together in September and October 2017, to produce two new pieces of music, Dean TV Girls and Chicken Boom Boom. They made a video for Dean TV Girls, as well as 4 short films of how to use some of the technology used for the music creation.
Electric Fire are a digital band formed from a collaboration with SoundLab and Heart n Soul's creative arts project for young people, Do Your Own Thing. Performing their own unique brand of neon-future-funk, hip hop and house, they play out-of-this-world catchy songs that will stay in your head for days, bringing energy, youth and excitement to any party. Using cutting edge technology in collaboration with Heart n Soul's SoundLab, they twist and manipulate sounds with ease so you won't know who or what is making them!
SoundLab Studio Sessions take place at the Heart n Soul studio in Deptford. Young artists get the chance to work one to one with a producer to create their own music and develop their musical style. Some of the artists learn how to use the studio more independently as well as having the chance to try out all the different equipment and instruments. We are currently working with Kishaun aka K-Dog, Maurice, Danielle, Raf, William and Alexi. Check out some of their music coming out of the studio!
A SoundLab Play Space is where people can come together to try out new and innovative music technology, meet new people and have fun making music. At each Play Space we welcome different music technology companies who share their new equipment and software with everyone. Recently we have invited ROLI, AC Sabre, Hackoustic, Studio Amplify, Vochlea, Ampify, Novation and more! The events take place four times a year and if you are a music technology company who would like to get involved or if you’re interested in coming along to an event please get in touch.
