Heart n Soul's SoundLab

Winner of the Best SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Resource Award - Music Teacher Awards For Excellence 2016

SoundLab is Heart n Soul's innovative digital music making project. It is a chance to explore ways of using technology to encourage people with learning disabilities to create sound and music experiences. SoundLab was first tested at The Beautiful Octopus Club in 2013. It gave audiences the chance to take part in a live music jam using iPads.

Since then we have been holding a variety of sessions trying out new digital devices and apps to see what we do (and do not) like. We also take the project to a variety of Heart n Soul events encouraging others to take part and explore digital music making.

Our latest event was SoundLab Play Space. Held at innovation charity Nesta, audiences got the chance to try out cutting edge technology, experiment with music making apps and get involved in discussions. There were also live performances and DJs.

In the future we will continue to develop SoundLab in a number of ways including experiment with digital music making in all aspects of our work, work with and develop our digital music group Electric Fire and continue to be a place where partners, technologists and developers can road test the accessibility of their new devices, apps and software.
